Making it Mindful has won an award!

Making it Mindful has been given the Versatile Blogger Award!

Last week I was nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award by the fabulous Lisa who writes the brilliant blog 'In a Science World'. I absolutely love following Lisa's posts on Instagram as well, so definitely check her out, especially if you have an interest in science communication.

So you might be asking what the Versatile Blogger Award is…well this award is all about bloggers sharing their love and supporting other bloggers. The award is given to bloggers that have inspired others, conveyed passion through their blog and who write with style. So to have been given this award means so much to me!

So now it's my turn to nominate two other fabulous bloggers who inspire me 🙂

My nominees –

My first nominee is Rhys from the Women of Science blog/campaign. I first met Rhys nearly ten years ago, as she studied engineering with my husband at the University of Manchester. I was so inspired by Rhys's vision and determination to create a new way to talk about science, especially the way we talk about female scientists and I was thrilled to take part in the campaign. So thank you Rhys for being such a massive inspiration to me and to many others.

I first saw Dr Sophie Powell speak about her blog at a Pint of Science event a couple of years ago and I can remember being so impressed with how she explained the science behind beauty products in an interesting and understandable way. I also love how glamorous and fabulous Sophie is as a person! Since then I have avidly followed The Scientific Beauty blog and I always look forward to her honest reviews and recommendations! I am also fascinated by her new job as a medical writer and I love hearing about life post-PhD.

Also, to fulfill my duty as a Versatile Blogger Award winner, I am required to share 7 random facts about me, so here goes:

I can speak fluent Welsh

I'm originally from North Wales and up until I was 18 I received all of my education in the Welsh language. I love being able to speak another language and I definitely hope to send any future babies to Welsh school too.

I'm married to my high school sweetheart

I've been with my husband Ollie for nearly ten years now and we were married in 2015. We both studied at the University of Manchester (I studied Psychology and he studied Mechanical Engineering) and I can't imagine my life without him.

I'm venturing out of academia soon

I have been lecturing for a year now and post PhD I have also been working as a research associate at the University of Manchester. Although I adore academia an opportunity came up to work in national policy for the NHS and as my PhD was all about why people choose not to follow procedures in community pharmacy, well, I couldn't not go for it! I'm really excited to see where this journey takes me and I'm thrilled to be an honorary lecturer for the University of Manchester going forward.

My favourite city is Liverpool

I might live in Manchester now but I am obsessed with Liverpool! My grandad and great grandma both come from Liverpool and I have so many happy memories associated with the city. My family are all massive LFC fans too and I love nothing more than watching the match with my family.

I should probably have dedicated my thesis to the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills…

I got seriously obsessed with RHOBH when I was writing up and watching an episode as a break from writing became one of the highlights of my day! But seriously, I love a good dose of reality TV to unwind and Erika Girardi from RHOBH is my absolute favourite housewife – she's a really inspiring woman!

I recently decided to become a vegetarian

I've been a veggie for nearly six months now and I wrote about my decision to give up eating meat in a recent blog post (you can read it here).

We planned our honeymoon around Britney Spears

Yep, really! As part of our honeymoon we flew to Vegas to watch Britney Spears and we had to arrange the dates around her shows. I have loved Britney ever since I was 7 years old and I haven't stopped since (even when it wasn't cool to love Britney, I stayed loyal!). There is no mood that a Britney megamix can't lift and listening to her songs has got me through alot in the last 20 years 🙂

So there we have it, thank you again to Lisa for her nomination and I'd really urge you to go and check out all of three inspiring blogs that I've mentioned in this post.

Thanks as always for taking the time to read this post.
